A former leading fashion model who was 5'10'' tall. Carey was a favorite with top American designers, including Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father was a renowned geoscientist and was named Scientist of 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey was raised throughout the world due to her father's career. She started modeling part time when she was a student at university at the University of Colorado and caught the attention of an agent for the Ford model Agency in New York. In 1980, she moved to France and briefly lived in Paris as well as Bordeaux, before returning back to New York in order to continue an acting career. She appeared on Vogue as well as Glamour pages. Between modeling gigs, she was also a full-time student, completing a master's degree in literary studies at New York University. Then she became interested in acting, and began taking classes with the Neighborhood Playhouse of New York. The actress had a tiny part on Club Paradise with Robin Williams, in 1986. She loves rock climbing as well as skiing and windsurfing.
